Evolved Corporeal Technology

In my work, I use the grotesque as a way to discuss our dependence on technology. Specifically, I question the notion that while technology assists humanity, the increasing reality of data collection simultaneously makes humans the product. Making art and painting allows me to depict the dystopian futures I envision us moving toward.

My “Evolved Corporeal Technology” series is inspired by our human need to connect with technology without regard for the cost to ourselves or to our participation in the world. I imagine a future where we will be amenable to give up more of ourselves and our liberties in exchange for keeping up with technology. My “Phenotypes” have given up the basic freedoms of their biological senses, and they are ecstatically happy.

An organism's “Phenotype” describes how its genotype is influenced by the external factors of the environment it lives in. This new expression of its genetic makeup will result in evolved physical traits that define the Phenotype of the organism.

In our near future, the progression of technology will impact the evolution of human biology. Through “Evolved Corporeal Technology”, humans will leave behind the obsolete electronic devices of the 21st century. Our new genetic expressions will allow for continuous, bidirectional communication with our greater artificial intelligence at all times.
